5 Goals


  1. Visualization - I want to create a selection of visual components to aid students during instruction and practice. When teaching, I often use a whiteboard to create a visualization. Media can be created to make the visualization interactive and more engaging for the students
  2. Curation - I've already started compiling videos and readings that I want to use in the classroom, but I do not have an effective form of organization. I want to use technology to organize the media I curate so I access and navigate it more easily.
  3. Screencasting - I've used screencasting once before, but I cannot remember how to use it. This seems like a valuable skills to have as an educator, so I want to practice creating screencasts multiple times before I do my student teaching.
  4. Digital Assessment - I loved the justification Jennifer Gonzales used to explain digital assessment. In addition to her remarks, I think digital assessment makes saving, compiling, and comparing data more efficient. I want to create diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments that utilize data to help me better teach my students.
  5. Student Use - All of my previous goals have been focused on how I can improve my technology use. This final goal is broad in that I want to create lessons where students are able to become literate in a form of media and use it to learn content and show understanding.

    These are excellent goals! I keep thinking that I need to be compiling texts and videos in an accessible place to use in my future classroom, so you've inspired me to get that started. Thanks for sharing!

Ode to an Orange

Link to adaptation: https://vm.tiktok.com/43k2BM/ As I read Larry Woiwode's essay the text quickly became my interpretation of the author's words. Images I envisioned, smells I created, and sounds in my head were added to the written text. There were certain elements that stood out to me, and those sections became the text I based my media adaptation off of. The lyrical style of the text prompted me to use TikTok: a social media app I have no experience with, but I knew that it enabled creators to be artistic with their postings. My process began by researching TikTok by exploring different functions. I discovered that I could upload various photos and choose from a variety of transitions to display my photos. Ode to an Orange moves to many different ideas quickly, so an episodic style slideshow sounded like a great fit for my adaptation. Medium Specificity

For this assignment, I used an app called "Drawing Desk" from the Apple App Store. I used my iPhone and drew with my finger. I started by exploring the app, determining its functions and capabilities. Most of the content was locked and required purchase to access the full app. In the sketching portion of the app, I discovered that I could use a variety of drawing tools like pen, pencil, crayon, marker, and paint brush. I was also able to select colors from a color wheel and save the hue I wanted: I could adjust the tone, intensity, and value of the colors. Finally, I could use a ruler or stencils to create circles or straight lines. These affordances allowed me to choose multiple colors to create contrast and depth to a drawing.
